Just a couple pics of the 2nd deep hive bodies that were added to the new hives today. The bees are doing well and with any luck I'll be adding the first honey supers (boxes) on the hive in a few weeks.

New Bees Installed
It's been a busy week at the Honey Farm.
(5) packages of bees were installed in their new hives. Everything went well but a few days after the install the weather turned cold and more snow fell. This is not the recipe for a successful bee season start.
The lone survivor hive from last year looks to be doing great. I did a complete hive inspection and found eggs and larvea which tells me the queen is alive and well, though I did not see her because there were just too many bees in the hive.
Bees from the survior hive were also seen carrying in pollen most likely from pussy willows that I see are in season on the side of the road. I also observed the maple tree buds today which tells me that maybe spring is actually here =)

It's Official !
Our "PROJECT" is live on Kickstarter! Through this project I hope to raise enough capital to purchase (4) additional hives, bees and construct an "Honor System" honey stand.
Please pass the word about our project.
Thanks!

And so it begins!
Welcome to the Homestead Honey Farm blog. My hope is to use this website to document what is happening at my small aviary and to alert customers when honey will be available. Look for more information in the coming days!
